The Renault FT-17 is a French light tank that was designed during World War I and is considered one of the most revolutionary tank designs in history. It was one of the first tanks to feature a rotating turret and was extremely maneuverable, which made it a popular tank among the Allies during the war.
The FT-17 was first introduced in 1917 and saw extensive use during the war, especially on the Western Front. It was used by the French army, as well as the American Expeditionary Forces, and was also exported to several other countries after the war.
The design of the FT-17 was compact and simple, which made it relatively cheap to produce and easy to maintain. It was armed with a single machine gun and had a top speed of around 6 miles per hour. Despite its small size, the FT-17 was highly effective in the trench warfare that characterized much of the fighting on the Western Front.
The FT-17 was widely imitated by other countries and served as the basis for many tank designs in the interwar period. It continued to be used by some countries well into the 1930s and was even used by several countries during World War II.
Today, the Renault FT-17 is remembered as one of the most important tanks in the history of armored warfare, and it remains an iconic symbol of the technological innovations of World War I.
